Teresyum Goal EXP System

In Teresyum we do not gain EXP from killing monsters, encounters, as the PHB would have it. We use the goal system. This utilizes character, party, and persistent goal. These goals, when completed, give an amount of EXP specified for you level as shown on the banking clan on the EXP system tab here. Examples of such goals are listed below.

Goals and Aspirations

Examples:

Character Goals

This is what your character wants to achieve during the session. When the session ends, for every Character Goal achieved, every player gains Character Goal EXP. For example, if three players achieve their goals, then you would receive Character Goal EXP times three. You only gain this experience as long as you have either completed your own Character goal, or helped someone else to achieve theirs.

Character goals should be publicly seen by all players, unless a player specifically requests for it to be kept secret.

The DM running the session is the judge of if you managed to achieve your character goal or not.

Examples:

  • I want to get someone to begin worshiping my God/Patron.

  • I want to find time to properly test the rookie in combat.

  • I want to add a unique skull to my collection.

Party Goals

This is the goal of the party for the session. Either decided by the DM (as a part of the posting of the session) or by the players (if the game is more free-form).

If the session ends, and the party goal is achieved, then the players all gain Party Goal EXP.If they don’t, then they get none of the Party Goal EXP.If the session is multi-part, you can either make the Party Goal per session, or you can make it multi-session. If you make it multi-session, then you times the amount of EXP gained by the number of sessions it took to achieve the goal.

If you are below the level range of a session you get your level's standard exp, but if you are higher level than the range you get the exp of the lowest level in the range (For example, if a level 3 joins a 6-10 game they get level 3 exp. But if a level 20 joins a 6-10 game they get level 6 exp)

Persistent Goals

This is something that a character works on between and during sessions.

These are goals that are centrally important to the character, and will typically take a long time to achieve.

This isn’t something that you should be able to achieve just by completing a single session.

A character can only achieve a maximum of one Persistent Goal per Month.

Only a control DM can approve or grant a Persistent Goal.

Examples:

  • I want to be promoted to Titanium Plate within the Adventurers Guild.

  • I want to found a Knightly Order.

  • I want to take revenge on the woman who mutinied my ship.

Other Information for Players

Ask for a Story line

  • If you wish to let the DM develop your goals for any reason just ask him to do so.

Obstacles in the way of Goals

  • If there is an obstacle in the way of your goal. Random Encounters are a very good example, dealing with the obstacle can grant you EXP (DM call on any number of character goals depending on the DM’s interpretation of the obstacles difficulty). You may even request to go on an adventure to possibly achieve goals in #quest-seeking.

Information for DMs

  • Each player has 3 goals from which they can get XP: character, party, and persistent .

  • A DM may multiple character or party goals in a session if they believe the overall session was particularly challenging, a player or players did something significant with their goal(s), etc. This is not to be done for every goal and should be used sparingly.

  • Character goals should not be open-ended, they must have a defined end state.

  • Goals cannot change during a session unless there is a significant development of some kind and the DM agrees. .

  • To make a new goal during a session you must have approval from a DM.

  • Persistent goals must be approved by your control DM or a Saga Admin .

  • A very long persistent goal should be split down into smaller, more complete-able goals.

  • Your Character goal dose not need to be tied to your long-term personal character goals. They should be based on personal goals and aspirations.

  • Should be visible to DMs - so that it can help guide where they take the story if no pre-set adventure e.t.c.

  • Helping others with their goals grants EXP to them as well. A DM has the power to award RP experience to players that play a significant role in participating, or in the completion of someone else's goals (as agreed by the DM). (This XP will typically be 50% of original reward but DM can give up to 100%).
